The Best Films of 2025 according to
Taiwan Film Critics and Reviewers
Introduction & Background
Around the end of each year, major media outlets often compile annual “Top Ten Films” lists from critics and reviewers, outlining what they consider the year’s finest cinematic works and offering film lovers a comprehensive viewing guide.
The Best Films of 2025 according to Taiwan Film Critics and Reviewers is jointly organized by the teams behind the projects Taiwan Film Critics: 21st Century Top 100 Films and Best Films of 2023 by Taiwan Film Critics and Reviewers.
A total of 314 Taiwan-based film critics and reviewers were invited to submit their personal top ten films of the year.
The aggregated results form a list of the Top 100 Films of 2025, reflecting the collective critical perspective and viewing preferences of Taiwan’s film criticism and cinephile community.
The second page of this website details each participating critic’s personal top ten list, with the goal of promoting further discussion, comparison, and exchange of ideas.
Methodology & Scoring System
The Best Films of 2025 by Taiwan Film Critics and Reviewers project adopts a weighted scoring system:

A film ranked as #1: 10 points

A film ranked as #2: 9 points

and so forth
A film is eligible if it meets at least one of the following criteria:

An official release year of 2025 (based on IMDb)
-
Theatrically released in Taiwan in 2025 (excluding re-releases)
-
Taiwanese premiere in 2025, including festival premieres or streaming releases in Taiwan
Films outside these criteria were excluded.
All formats were eligible, including narrative feature films, documentaries, animation, short films, and VR works.
In the event of tied scores, rankings were determined by number of mentions, followed by highest individual ranking and vote count.

– Statement & Scope –
This project represents a curated survey initiated and conducted by the organizing team.
The results do not claim to represent the views of all film critics in Taiwan.
Participants were selected based on the organizers’ shared assessment of individuals who actively follow new releases, consistently publish film-related criticism, and demonstrate distinct critical voices within the contemporary film discourse.
Due to limitations in time, manpower, and professional networks, invitations were issued based on reachable contacts.
If any senior critics or emerging reviewers were unintentionally omitted, we welcome correspondence via email.
Should a 2026 edition be produced, we would be glad to extend future invitations.
Feedback is also welcome, as we aim to further refine and expand this project in the years ahead.
